The sun shines down upon Lilycove’s beach, providing delightful natural lighting. The ocean’s breeze gently tousles brunette hair, soft strands swaying beautifully. And, together, they are factors to create an amazing picture; one that takes form when the man winks at the smartphone hovering before him. Snap. Perfect shot.

”Nice work, Ker. Let’s have a look at those.”

The Rotom Phone lets out a beeping noise, or more specifically, the Rotom currently possessing the smartphone. It moves closer, close enough for its owner to reach for it, and once in his grasp, the image gallery opens without him even having to press anything. He scrolls through them, deleting only a couple.

What now?

With it being a rare day off for him, he might as well walk through the beach and see what other good picture spots he can find, no? Those are needed for his social media accounts. For that appearance of a perfect life…

These earbuds were positively jopping. Sawyer should have bought them years ago, but he listens to some tunes while him and a certain hat-wearing salamander slash hippopotamus thing. They were running together, the four legs on the Slowpoke carry it forward, matching in tempo with his trainer.

"How you feeling, Sushi?"

Sushi gave his signature response, a rather loud yawn. He was a tired little bean, but he had put on too many pounds. Hence, why Sawyer and Sushi went on a run to work off the calories.

Sawyer laughs heartily, speeding along the beach on Lilycove in just his open white-shirt and trunks, his sunglasses keeping the sun from his silver eyes. Sushi's hat should have helped too, but for some reason, the little guy liked the hat backwards. Every one of his Pokemon were weird.

"Huh... who's that?"

Sawyer stops, but Sushi doesn't get the memo. In fact, bringing attention to the brunette in the distance as the Slowpoke make a ten yard dash towards the photogenic brunette boy. Between the backwards cap, and the fast approach, the salamander-hippo was the picture definition of fresh.

A fast Slowpoke? Fresh.

Sawyer jogs over, watching the Slowpoke trip over himself, and land on his belly in front of Martin. But with it, comes the world's biggest smile: open-mouthed, eyes pointed upwards, looking for validation and approval.

Hoenn is the sort of place where one should always expect what is unexpected, that is as if one of the region’s unspoken and unwritten rules. Having lived here for almost three years now, Mars is well aware of it, and perhaps that’s why he’s not particularly surprised when seeing a Slowpoke running towards him as fast as its stubby legs will allow it. A Slowpoke wearing a snapback, that is.

It trips, and the banker does no more than raise a brow, eyes marked by shades of gold and amber falling upon the Dopey Pokémon. Luckily for this Slowpoke, Mars has always had a certain fondness for its evolution line, and admittedly, the way it smiles up at him is kind of adorable.

”Ker.” The Rotom Phone rises from his hand, hovering in the air and taking a few pictures of the Slowpoke. It moves around, making sure to get the best angles.

Mars, on the other hand, looks at their surroundings, spotting a boy that stands in the direction the cap-wearing pokémon had come from. Is that its trainer?

”Hey, is this your Slowpoke?” He asks, smiling with both ease and calm.

This fresh as hell Slowpoke sits on his belly, watching Mars with an utterly adorable expression of purity. Pure goofball energy. His smile, his fangs slightly pointed as he continues to watch Mars. The backwards cap truly did freshen this ninety pound tank of a salamander, and as Sushi gets onto his feet again, Sawyer finally closes the distance.

"Yup. That's Sushi. Name's Sawyer. You, stranger?" Sawyer replies, eyes to this brunette. That smile was calm, enough so that his shoulders would slouch a bit in relaxation. Sushi didn't get out much. The tub-dweller often stayed in his forever bed, in the bathroom of his apartment. But today, Sushi wanted to run.

Wild. The photoshoot inflating the ego of the salamander. However much one can raise a Slowpoke's ego.

The Rotom Phone did "Huh... he must like Sushi." He figured that was what it was. Sushi wasn't a stranger to Pokemon, but as the little pink beast strut his stuff, providing every pose imaginable for a quadrapedal salamander, Sawyer blinks in confusion. "You know... he isn't this social... Sushi rarely leaves his tub."

Not at all like the strutting Slowpoke, who was stretching his back on the sand to help with the best angle.

Stranger. When asked for his name, there’s the initial impulse to introduce himself as he usually would: ”Martín del Mar, CEO of Piazza Oro Grande Bank.” Yet, Mars refrains, because it’s not like he’s in proper business attire or representing POG Bank at all (other than with his stylish black and gold Meowth-patterned swim trunks) and he has no reason to want to intimidate a kid he met randomly at the beach. So, his response comes casually and with a smile:

”You can call me Mars.”

He still offers a hand for Ashley Shepard to shake, but that’s that, and his attention is soon drawn back to the Slowpoke that seems to be enjoying the short photo session quite a lot. Honestly, it’s kind of cute.

”Sushi, huh? That’s a cute name. Maybe he likes my Rotom, or maybe he can sense that I have a few Slowpoke-line Pokémon of my own.”

Slowpoke, Slowbro, and Slowking, both Galarian and Kantonian, actually. Passingly, Mars finds himself thinking of the loyal Slowking that had recently been lost during Necrozma’s attack in Sootopolis, but he tries to push that thought out of his mind quickly enough, smiling at Sawyer.

”Do you want me to send you those?” He nods towards the phone, referring to the pictures.

Sawyer grins. That was easy enough. Sure, Sushi initiated the conversation, but he didn't mind. Heck, with Mars stating he had Slowpoke Pokemon of his own, it only made sense. Sushi must have smelled it. Do Slowpoke smell that good?

All he knew was that Sushi was incredibly photogenic. Every photo was like another one Sushi specially posed for. Stretched out, laying on his side, rolling on his back, and seated. Sawyer chuckles at Mars' offer of photos. "For sure, Mars. Let me get my phone out." He pulls out his own phone, holding it out for Mars to input his contact.

"Since you have some yourself, I have to ask... how do you stop them from jumping on the ceiling fan as Slowpoke? And do they grow out of that?"

No explanation. He needed the answer.

Sushi was a precocious little scamp. All he does as Sawyer mentions it, is turn his pink little salamander head and look innocent. He was too cute to get in trouble after breaking the ceiling fan.

Giving his personal number to a total stranger? Mars is not the type, but it’s a good thing that this is a multi-SIM card phone. Just like most people do, Ashley Shepard gets the work number of POG Bank’s CEO, which might be a little surprising if he ever texts him, since his personal assistant usually answers those.

Today, however, he does no more than enter the number and ring his phone, then passing his own device back to Sawyer. The Rotom phone in question has still been harassing the Slowpoke when it vibrates, and after a second to regain composure, it levitates back to the banker’s hand. Just like that, the pictures are sent to Sawyer, but when he’s about to select the very last one, he pauses.

”The ceiling fan?” Now that’s something you don’t hear every day. Chuckling lightly, Mars looks down at Sushi. ”You’re more cat than Slowpoke, huh?”

There’s a smirk.

”Have you maybe tried playing with him more to tire him out?”
[break][break]
That’s what Mars does with his many felines. Or, well, what he makes sure they do, since he doesn't have a lot of time in his hands.

Oh. He was part Purrloin. That was it? Ashley looks to Sushi, raising a brow. Sushi does the same, mouth wide open, the question sitting on his mind. He swishes the idea around in his head, and kneels down to the Slowpoke.

His tone is playful. "Alright, you little shit. Going to tire you out when we get back." He says this, the Slowpoke giving a rather happy smile. If its tail could wag, it was.

Weirdest. Slowpoke. Ever. Ashley still loves him all the same.

"Thanks for the tip, Mars." He looks to the Rotom, squinting a moment as he looks over the phone, before back to his own to seeing the pictures. Ashley's eyes widen, his brow raising. "These are better pictures than a professional gives... your phone's got a gift." He rubs his chin quizzically. "Gotta get me one of those."

Taking a second, he looks about the location, and seats himself on the beach near the new... friend? Friend.

"You have a few, huh? Which are easier to handle, the bro or the king?" He had to ask. This was important matters, in case Sushi wished to become one or the other. Knowing Sushi, they'd pick the opposite one Ashley would. That was a part of life.

”Rotom are good at what they do.” The Plasma Pokémon dwelling within his phone seems pleased at the praise, as made evident by the way lights flash for a second there. Mars smiles faintly at this, but as he does, he also presses a button to tell the Rotom to go back to resting mode. He already got what he needed, after all.

It’s then that he puts the phone away, looks at the time on his watch, and determining that he still has a few minutes to chat, he too sits on the sand.

”Hmm… Let’s see…” It’s a difficult question, isn’t it? Since personality can vary a lot even among pokémon of the same species. Looking at Sushi, Mars considers, thoughts coming to mind of his own Slowbro and Slowking. ”Definitely Kantonian ones over the Galarian variant, those can get really aggressive. Slowbro tend to be lazier but have the advantage of being able to mega evolve, while Slowking are smarter”
